Shipping and Receiving Clerk
JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Reports to the Plant Manager. Responsible for coordinating inbound/outbound inventory and reconciling nightly as well as managing plant fleet in accordance to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. In the absence of the Shipping and Receiving Clerk, the Plant Manager will cover these duties and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
All employees are responsible to report food safety and quality issues to those responsible to initiate action.
Assist Material Handlers in packing shipment so that no damage will occur during shipment. Ensure that shipments are clearly labeled, manifested correctly and recorded accurately.
Complete all shipping & receiving documentation and provide the appropriate departments with the back up documentation.
Act as Egg Innovations representative to assure customer confidence, high quality, prompt, reliable and courteous service.
Daily track all inventories of product and supplies and record. Design inventory cycle count process to reduce discrepancies in product and supplies.
Schedule all egg pick-ups from the farms and incoming egg deliveries.
Manage fleet by analyzing Daily Run Log and Pre-trip/Post-trip checklists on all plant trucks and trailers. Responsible for preventative maintenance and scheduling routine maintenance.
Manage inventory age to reduce turnover of product to breaker.
Create minimum inventory levels.
Observe and follow all safety procedures – OSHA familiarity.
Advise employees on care and preservation of items received, stored, and shipped; methods and use of equipment such as handling, storing, maintaining, and shipping stock; and related problems.
Study records and recommend remedial actions for reported non-usable, slow moving, and excess stock.
Review records for accuracy of information and compliance with established procedures, and to determine adequacy of stock levels.
Schedule work for special and periodic inventories.
Traces history of items to determine reasons for discrepancies between inventory and stock control records and recommends remedial actions to resolve discrepancies.
Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow.
Assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
Issue written and oral instructions
Adjust errors and complaints
Understand the basics of HACCP, as it pertains to the position.
Communicate any food safety and quality concerns to the plant Quality Assurance Department or Plant Manager
Maintain weekly reports
Update dock schedules
Review driver logs and keep drivers under DOT standards.
Maintain and update fuel consumption logs.
Order and monitor fuel
Handle freight claims
Track outstanding material
Update certifications for shipping paperwork
Experience with pallet Jack, Forklift and Yard Dog Helpful.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and respond appropriately to constant change in priorities as necessary.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Must have the ability to accurately manage material flow and accurately complete all necessary paperwork. Must be able to obtain a license to operate a forklift. Must have the ability to operate a pallet jack. Commercial Drivers License is a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Must be able to compute ratio and percent’s. General computer skills an asset.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to challenges/opportunities.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to adjust schedules routinely.
COMPUTER SKILLS: Bar coding knowledge a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to wet/and or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed too high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
