Director of Patient Access

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Director of Patient Access is Responsible for the organization, control and management of the Managers and staff for all functions of Front Registration, Beyer Registration, ECC Registration, Out-Patient Clinic Registration, Insurance Verification, Endoscopy Scheduling, Information Desk Greeters, CBX Operators, and the Cashier/Customer Service areas. This includes planning and implementing procedures and policies for these areas. Maintains the customer service, quality, productivity and attendance policies and programs for those associates under his/her leadership. This position also supports patient access functions in off-site locations including the Cancer Center and Outpatient Physical Therapy.

____Provides leadership, direction and supervision to management and staff in all of the Registration Services areas, to include hiring, training, evaluations, and providing discipline up to and including termination when necessary.
_____Establishes on an annual basis realistic goals and operating budgets for the associated areas of responsibility; ensures adherence to budget and productivity for departments.
____Serves as a liaison between the physician offices and the hospital regarding registration services issues.
____ Ensures that policy and procedure manuals are maintained, reviewed and revised annually, and they are available as required for staff and for audit and control purposes.
____ Performs personnel administration tasks including managing, developing and evaluating the performance of managers and other key personnel; reviews evaluations of all clerical staff within designated areas of responsibility.
____ Reviews internal and external changes that may impact goals and advises senior management of potential problems and/or changes required to the goal; regularly provides senior management with statistical information documenting status of area performance.
____Assists in overseeing the development, installation and/or implementation of new computer based systems and changes to existing systems as they affect the registration services department.
____Acknowledges and supports hospital defined goals and approach to patient care; attends regular training sessions and management classes to improve patient and customer communications and satisfaction.
____Coordinates communication with individuals in the department. Conducts monthly meetings with information material relevant to staff needs and Kosciusko Community Hospital. Allows for open communication with regards to suggestions and/or concerns. Collaborates with personnel in decision making.

Remains familiar with and continually complies with all federal and state healthcare laws, regulations, and rules (including Medicare and Medicaid billing requirements applicable to this job). Reports any possible non-compliance.

Assures protection and privacy of health information as attained through written, electronic or oral disclosure.
Ensures that departmental audits are conducted to maintain a high level of compliance with government and corporate compliance.

Assists customer/ patient complaints involving the appropriate departments and taking action as needed.

Participates in committees and forums as a representative of the hospital on patient registration issues; report to senior management on issues that may affect the department or the hospital.

“The associate will hold in confidence any and all patient information communicated or stored using any medium including oral communication. In addition, the associate will seek to protect patient information from inadvertent use or disclosure by adhering to hospital policies.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and formal training required:
-Knowledge of and ability to interpret JCAHO and Indiana State Board of Health Standards acquired through education or experience.
-Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related medical field, or other relevant business/clinical background preferred.
-Experienced in computer software, proficient use of Word and Excel.

Five years of experience working in a healthcare organization or related field required. Experience indicating a high degree of public contact and above average interpersonal skills required. Computer experience required. Has knowledge of third-payor regulation requirements and laws affecting admission/registration procedures desirable.


-Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills needed to manage staff, interact and problem solving with patents/visitors/physicians.
-High level of analytical skills necessary to supervise, problem-solve and coordinate technical and training functions, as well as resolve problems and make recommendations involving patient needs.
-Exposure Control Level II which means some exposure to blood and body fluids

Normal office environment with exposure to patients through the interviewing process and assisting with registration when needed. Exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature changes and the like
